What’s Included in These 3rd Grade Place Value Worksheets?
The worksheets build skills in stages instead of repeating the same type of problem.
Kids begin by reviewing hundreds, tens, and ones, then move into thousands and visual place value models using base-ten blocks.
The next worksheets practice:
- identifying a digit’s place and value
- standard, expanded, and word form
- building numbers from place values
- finding missing values
- comparing and ordering numbers
- solving place value mystery clues
Numbers with zeros are included on purpose because they help show whether a child really understands each place. Numbers such as 3,062 and 5,009 are especially useful for this.
How to Use the Worksheets
Keep the Place Value Helper nearby while your child works through the first pages.
I recommend starting with the visual worksheets before moving to expanded form, comparing numbers, and the more abstract place value activities. One or two pages at a time is enough.
For rounding, use the number-line worksheets first. They help kids see which ten or hundred a number is closer to instead of relying only on a memorized rounding rule.
The thousands and four-digit number pages can also be used as extension or enrichment if your child is not working with larger numbers yet.
